I’m Nahida and I’m third year studying Classics at Royal Holloway. I enjoy planning elaborate themed parties and karaoke. I’m particularly interested in helping young people with their mental wellbeing because we have lost too many young people to poor mental health.
WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU WERE TAUGHT AT SCHOOL ABOUT MENTAL WELLBEING AND WHY?
I wish there were more discussions on the impact social media can have on your mental wellbeing. Of course social media consumption can be beneficial but it can also be very damaging. There aren’t enough conversations about how fake social media is! We constantly see filtered and photoshopped photos which alter our perception of beauty.
ANY ADVICE TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE READING THIS?
Whenever I feel overwhelmed I take a break from social media by deactivating my accounts. I also think your physical wellbeing can impact your mental wellbeing, so I go on long walks and runs which always boost my mood.
