ABOUT ME

My name is Nikhil Jayswal. I am a grad student in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science. I suffer from Crohn's Disease and also have an ileostomy. I run a non-registered volunteer organisation called Crohn's and Colitis Squad, which aims to raise awareness about Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) in India and advocate for a better future for IBD patients. We also advocate for people with other chronic illnesses and invisible disabilities in India.

WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU WERE TAUGHT AT SCHOOL ABOUT MENTAL WELLBEING AND WHY?

Having been raised in a difficult domestic environment, I wish I had been taught how to be more resilient in stressful situations and about the importance of self-love and care.

ANY ADVICE TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE READING THIS?

I listen to music all day. It helps a lot in regulating my mood. I take care of my mental well-being by trying to get proper sleep, taking time off work, learning more about something I like, and talking to my close friends.
